Inspection of heating system
Heating system: -- Inspected -- Not inspected --> Main shut-off valve was turned off (don't try to turn on!) or pilot valve was off to test gas-fired heater (don’t try to light!). In both cases, you may be taking some risk as due to existence of some accumulated gas in the area. Take extra precaution if this is not your property.
Having a wrench next to the gas shut-off valve is a good idea to make emergency shut-off easier? -- Yes -- No. --> place one (inexpensive) if you are planning to sell your home.
Are gas pipes in good condition? -- Yes -- No. --> Consider replacement. (Some older homes may have copper natural gas pipes. Sulfur in natural gas may cause corrosion in copper pipes.)
Inspection of old pipes
Any flexible (short corrugated) gas pipe? -- No -- Yes --> They should be replaced with rigid gas pipes, they are not safe.
Yellow polyvinyl chloride plastic (PVC) gas pipes, if there is still any, must be replaced. They are not allowed anymore.
Number of heating zones: -- One -- Multiple – for …………….. areas (number of valves shows the number of zones).
Heating systems inspection tags
Is there any service tag? Service tag shows the date of last inspection of the heating system inspection by a licensed contractor within the last one year: -- Yes -- No
Heating system temperature change: Raised from … ºF to …. ºF during inspection (temperature should go up to 72ºF in cold weather.)
Condition of registers: -- Open and clean -- Dirty and clogged. --> Have them cleaned by a professional.
Is insulation in good condition? -- Yes No --
