Inspection of Electrical Wiring
Inspection of electrical wiring polarity and grounding
Check polarity and grounding of representative number of outlets in rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and garage were tested. Take note of any reverse polarity and grounding. Ask a licensed electrician to fix it.
Evidence of overheating at………………… --> Serious safety issue, contact a licensed electrician.
Recessed lights inserted into the ceiling create heat and may pose fire hazard if they are not insulated properly. Here’s a proper application of a recessed light:
Inspection of electrical wiring: Picture above shows recessed light on the ceiling
Fan at ………… is: -- Operational -- Not operational --> Have a licensed electrician to examine and fix it.
Extension cord was used at…………… --> Serious violation, replace.
Fixture is operating unsafely at…………………… --> Consider repair or replacement.
Inspection of some common electrical violations
Double-tapping: Attachment of two wires to one circuit breaker of fuse terminal resulting in overheating.
Terminal corrosion: Rust and corrosion at connections reduce conductivity and cause overheating of the wires.
Exposed wiring in the attic: Many home owner and non-professional repairmen leave the electrical wires unprotected and the junction boxes without wire grommets. Wires should be protected in conduits and junction boxes and covering them with tapes is not acceptable. Serious fire and electrical contact hazard!
Picture above shows blue-colored junction box is covered and secured well.
Inspection of light dimmers operating ceiling fans
Light dimmers (rheostats) should not be used for fans equipped with lights. Reducing the voltage damages electric motors (humming sound is an indication). Varitrol switch controlling the speed should be used without changing the voltage.
